The 3 Essential Pieces You Need This Spring

Now that the weather is (finally!) breaking, we've got a trio of perfect pieces that will take your spring wardrobe to the next level. By adding this assortment into the mix, you'll be totally covered for whatever March, April, or May occasion comes your way — from weddings to work events to weekend getaways. The best part? You don't need to do a full closet overhaul. In fact, it's just the opposite. For each piece, we've done the heavy lifting by explaining how it will work best work with what you've got.

1. The Dressy Sandal

Forget too-casual flip-flops and last year's beat-up sandals — which have surely endured at least a season's worth of wear and tear. This spring, make sure to pick up a grown-up pair of heels with gorgeous details, like well-made buckles or tons of straps.

Wear it Two Ways:

Add a a floaty, light-colored dress and a gaggle of thin gold stacking rings for the perfect pretty wedding guest attire. Everyone will wonder how you make it look so easy...

OR

Add slouchy boyfriend jeans, a solid V-neck tee and a statement necklace for a work ensemble that transitions right into after-work cocktails.

2. The Crossover Tank

Don't get rid of your T-shirts and regular tank tops — which, as long as they're well made, will never go out of style — just tuck them further back into the drawer this season and opt for an elegant crossover tank instead. Try one in silk for dressier occasions, or go for a more basic cotton version for more of a workday vibe.

Wear it Two Ways:

Add a pencil skirt, a jean jacket and splash-of-color pumps for a classically cool office look.

OR

Add flawy, boho-chic pants and an armful of bracelets and you've just created your new weekend uniform: an updated, fun runaround look.

3. The Split Skirt

Remember Angelina Jolie's leg at the Oscars a few years ago? Think that, but then take it down like 100 notches. This season, showing just a hit of leg (sorry, Angie) is the way to exude sexiness without becoming a meme.

Wear it Two Ways:

Add a simple tank and giant hoop earrings (but no other jewelry) for a gorgeously irresistible date night look.

OR

Dress it down totally with a fitted sweatshirt, a messy top knot and your favorite high-top sneakers. Think high school art teacher meets Parisian street style.
